Tuesday May 19th

Today was going to be an adventure.   I bought ferry tickets to Isla Mujeres.  9:00 AM much to the groans of some of the kids.

We got off the ferry on the island, rented 2 golf carts for $550 each for the whole day and we had the entire island to ourselves.

We tooled to the south end of the island where there is a park.  It was spectacular. Sea turtles, iguanas, the eastern most point in Mexico, sculptures and more.

So many cool pictures, go see the album  for all the pictures.

After a exploring this area, we hit a oddly Jamaican themed hole in the wall called "The Joint". Hammocks are hanging and the menu looks good.  We order some frozen mojitos and food.  It takes an extraordinarily long time.  Mind you the place is staffed by 3 people.  An American girl who is 14 years old, is our waitress. A bartender and a person in the kitchen.  The waitress tells us they will give us some free drinks due to the wait.  It appears they had run out of propane before they could cook our food so it will be a while as they switch tanks.  We did not mind; the weather was great, we were sitting in the shade and enjoying ourselves.

I look like I am channelling my inner Popeye.

The food finally arrives and it it so worth the wait.  Shrimp tacos, and crazy burritos with french fries in them and I had what I thought was the best ceviche I have ever had.  (could also be I was really hungry).

After lunch we head to the north end of the island for some more beach time.  The water there is only waist deep or less for over 100 yards from the shore.  Just perfect for relaxing.

The last ferry leaves at 5:00 so we change and start looking for the place to return our carts (which Joel and I have a blast with)  The streets of the downtown area a tangle of one ways that takes a while to navigate.  We must have made 3-4 attempts to find this place before we actually got there.  At first this was frustrating, then just silly.

What a great day that was.
